Over 67 years of construction and development, as a political – social organization in charge of people-to-people diplomacy, VUFO has been continuously growing strong. Currently, VUFO has 117 member organizations including 65 central ones, 52 local ones and hundreds of Friendship Associations.
Addressing the ceremony, VUFO Vice President in-charged cum General Secretary Don Tuan Phong, said over the past years, VUFO has developed strongly, making important contributions to external affairs in particular and to the cause of national renewal, development and defense in general. In the coming, its most important goal is to work closely with the Party and State diplomacy to maintain peace and development.
Vice President in-charge Phong also emphasized four key tasks to be implemented in the coming time.
First, to propaganda about the country and people, the development policy of Vietnam to international friends, to enlist the support of international friends for the cause of national protection and construction.
Secondly, to make international people understand correctly about Viet Nam. In a rapidly changing world, both traditional and non-traditional issues take place in parallel, so how to make the people in the world understand us is a big problem, he said. While the opposition forces are still active, the fight on the ideological front will continue to be a hot issue in the fields of democracy, human rights, and religion.
Thirdly, to mobilize non-governmental aid. This aid, including financial aid and non-financial aid which are technology or human resources, training, contribute significantly to Viet Nam’s economic development.
Fourthly, to mobilize Vietnamese overseas. VUFO will join member organizations to mobilize overseas Vietnamese to participate in national construction. To provide overseas Vietnamese accurate information on the economic situation and policies of the Party and the State.
At the ceremony, the VUFO Vice President in-charge also expressed his deep gratitude to the old generations in people-to-people field, he believed, the following generation of the Union will inherit the tradition, continue writing the glorious history of the people of Viet Nam.
