On October 30, a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the National Day of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria was held in Hanoi.
Attending the meeting were Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoang Van, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); Mr. Nguyen Tran Nam, Deputy Minister of Construction , Chairman of the Vietnam – Algeria Friendship Association (VAFA); representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Communist Party’s Central Commission for External Relations, agencies and organizations having relationship with Algeria; Vietnamese experts on health, construction and education who used to work in Algeria; teachers and pupils of the Vietnam – Algeria Secondary School and media representatives.
Mr. Cherif Chikhi, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Vietnam, ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of Arab Saudi, Mozambique, South Africa, Libya and Nigeria also attended the event.
Addressing the meeting, VAFA Chairman Nguyen Tran Nam recalled achievements gained by Algerian people for the last 60 years. “Despite geographical distance, Vietnam and Algeria share many similarities in history and tradition. The two nations have supported and helped each other in the cause of national liberation and national construction and development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have constantly developed in all fields including politics, economy, culture, education etc. Leaders of both countries have frequently exchanged high-ranking visits, economic and trade ties between Vietnam and Algeria have seen stable development. The two countries signed many agreements on economy, science & technology, trade, culture,” said the Chairman.
Taking the opportunity, Mr. Nam expressed his sincere thanks to H.E Ambassador Cherif Chikhi and all staff of the Embassy of Algeria in Vietnam for the strong support and coordination in organizing mutual friendship activities. He expected the two sides to further contribute to promoting friendship and cooperative relations for mutual benefits of the two countries’ peoples.
Ambassador Cherif Chikhi said the celebration in Hanoi had a special significance. Indeed, Algeria and Vietnam were side by side at the time of wars for independence and also assisting and supporting each other in the cause of national construction. Vietnamese experts who used to work in Algeria and who attended the ceremony in Hanoi is the most practical evidence for the traditional bonds of friendship between the two countries. The ambassador was confident that the Vietnam-Algeria relationship will further develop in line with their potential. He pledged to bring effort to strengthen the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and solidarity, mutual understanding between the two peoples as well.
