(Vietpeace) A delegation of women activists has been on a working visit to Vietnam between Sept. 7-20, 2014. The 15-person team from the Lotus Circle, led by founder-director Megan McCloskey, held a meeting with Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) on Sept. 9, joined by Nguyen Tam Chien, President of the Viet Nam-United States Society (VUS).
Welcoming the visit and introducing the role of VUFO and VUS in promoting mutual understanding, friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Vietnamese people and the peoples in other countries, including the Americans, Vu Xuan Hong said Viet Nam and the United States witnessed a positive period in bilateral relations, with an expansion in all fields of cooperation. He hoped the people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and U.S. organizations to be actively promoted to contribute to enhancing bilateral ties.
McCloskey, who is also a member of the board of directors of PeaceTree Viet Nam and the Seatle-Washington based Center for Women and Democracy (CWD), expressed her appreciation of VUFO’s warm reception. She said that upon her first working visit to Viet Nam in 2012, she was impressed by significant achievements gained by the government and the people of Viet Nam during the Doi Moi (reform) process. The Lotus Circle should make more contribution to building the U.S.-Viet Nam’s relations, she said.
Lotus Circle is a new partner of VUFO. The organization connects women leaders all over the world in order to develop programs that support women in leadership and promote their interest.
