
Present at the inauguration ceremony were Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien, VUS President, and the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam David B. Shear, VUFO Vice President Nguyen Thi Hoang Van, representatives from the Commission for External Relations of the Communist Party’s Central Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as 100 Vietnamese alumni of various U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs.
Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien extended warm congratulations to VUSAC members and emphasized the Club’s mission was to enhance mutual understanding and contribute to building friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the United States.
H.E. U.S. Ambassador David B. Shear recalled State President Truong Tan Sang’s visit to Washington last year, during which the Comprehensive Partnership was announced and the people-to-people relations were recognized by leaders of the two countries as “the glue’ in the bilateral ties. He wished the new organization to play an active role in helping advance the relationship to a new phase.
The club’s programs will include organizing round-table discussions on topics of actionable interest to VUSAC members, celebrating the anniversary of normalization of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations and getting together with other alumni associations from France, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
The Hanoi Club of Vietnamese U.S. Alumni is a member organization of the Vietnam – USA Society, gathering the Vietnamese participants in various education exchange programs sponsored by the U.S. Government (i.e. Fulbright, Vietnam Education Foundation, Humphrey etc.) and also those, who have U.S.-based education.
