Vietnam enhances multi-faceted cooperation with Myanmar
(VOV.VN) On May 15th, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc received Speaker of Myanmar’s Parliament and House of Nationalities Mahn Win Khaing in Hanoi in his official visit to Vietnam.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc warmly welcomed Speaker of Myanmar’s Parliament and House of Nationalities Mahn Win Khaing in Hanoi in his official visit to Vietnam, and emphasized the importance of bilateral partnership. Vietnam highlyvalues traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Myanmar, he stressed, noting that thriving diplomatic ties and productive economic relations allowed the countries to expand their partnership. Phúc appreciated the socio-economic achievements’ Goverment of Myanmar over the past time and he believed the satisfactory results of Myanmar in the near future strengthening Myanmar’s position in the region and international arena. The visit would further contribute to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, he added. PM Phúc stressed the need to maintain existing co-operative mechanisms, increase visit exchanges and improve relations between localities and people. Vietnamese businesses are keen to invest in Myanmar thank to the Myanmar Government’s efforts to improve the investment environment, Phúc said, asking the ASEAN peer to support Vietnamese investors in banking, aviation, telecommunication, mining, tourism, agriculture and consumer goods. PM urged Myanmar would establish the Myanmar – Vietnam Friendship Association to coordinate with the Vietnam – Myanmar Friendship Association in further strengthening the diplomatic ties. The two sides agreed to strengthen co-ordination at regional and international forums like the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and sub-regional co-operation mechanisms, as well as support each other’s initiatives and activities within the framework of ASEAN. They also stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea (South China Sea); settling disputes via peaceful means and international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); implementing fully and effectively the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and reaching soon a framework for the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC). For his part, the Myanmar Speaker said he was impressed with Vietnam’s development achievements and realised that Myanmar could learn from Vietnam’s experience. He detailed the activities of the Myanmar Parliament, noting that his country would be working to revise the law on foreign investment and the law on foreign companies to lure more foreign investors. He said the Myanmar – Vietnam Friendship Association should be founded in the short time.
